CVW-4 OPERATIONAL APPROACH
At Carrier Air Wing Four (CVW-4), we embrace an Annual Tour of Duty approach to provide an exciting and immersive mid-level experience in naval aviation simulation. Our community is built on the foundation of practical and safe military aviation operations, enhanced with a touch of flair. We are not a hardcore Mil-Sim environment; instead, we offer a balanced mix that caters to both seasoned aviators and newcomers. Our goal is to create a welcoming and enjoyable space where all members, regardless of their proficiency level, can come together to share their passion for military aviation.
Comprehensive Self-Paced Learning Program
We provide a thorough and flexible learning program that allows members to progress at their own pace. This program includes training in multiple airframes and access to various servers, combining stand-alone missions with story-based immersive campaigns featuring Dynamic Persistence. This ensures that our pilots can develop their skills in a variety of scenarios, keeping the experience fresh and engaging.
Annual Tour of Duty: Six Phases
Our operational approach is structured around an annual season (tour) that consists of six distinct phases, each designed to enhance different aspects of our members' flying skills and operational knowledge.
Phase One: Basic Onboard Introduction to the squadron and familiarization with our protocols, procedures, and community values. Basic flight training to ensure all members have a solid foundation in flight operations and safety.
Phase Two: Fleet Replacement Squadron (FRS)/Weapons Training Specialized training focused on transitioning pilots into specific airframes. Weapons training to ensure proficiency in combat scenarios, including the use of various munitions and tactics.
Phase Three: Advanced Onboard Advanced flight training to hone skills in more complex maneuvers and operations. Emphasis on teamwork and coordination during missions.
Phase Four: Squadron Workups Intensive preparation for deployment, including simulated missions that replicate real-world scenarios. Focus on unit cohesion, communication, and strategic planning.
Phase Five: Deployment Participation in immersive, story-based campaigns that simulate actual deployment conditions. Dynamic and persistent environments to create a continuous and evolving experience.
Phase Six: Wing Stand-down/Recruitment Period of rest and reflection, where the squadron stands down to evaluate and celebrate achievements. Recruitment and onboarding of new members, ensuring the growth and renewal of our community.
Concept of Operations
This concept of operations for DCS and the CVW-4 community was designed around the following concepts:
Based on a set and consistent tour/deployment schedule.Provides members with an integrated and scheduled way to both on-ramp and off-ramp into or out of the organization.A mechanism to promote and advance within the organization.Adequate time for mission contributors to complete the requirements needed to construct quality campaign missions. The pace allows for participation in other events outside of the CVW-4 organization, such as competitions and joint events.Allows a stand-down period to help combat membership fatigue.
Additionally, the Concept Addresses the Following:
Required positions needed for wing operations.Required skill sets needed to maintain wing cohesion during combat operations.
Community and Camaraderie
At CVW-4, we value the camaraderie and respect among our pilots. Our community is a collective respite where we can enjoy the thrill of military aviation in a supportive and inclusive environment. We believe in respecting our members' time and effort, providing a balanced and enjoyable experience that prioritizes fun while maintaining a high standard of operational realism.
